Payment Rate Details

Once you have completed 4 successful MIXER calls, you will receive a base rate of $6.00 per call. A successful MIXER call is one in which you and your call partner talk to each other for the full ten minutes on the designated topic.

  • TARGET CALL BONUS:
  • If you complete all 15 calls you will receive a $50.00 bonus.

  • UNIQUE PHONE BONUS:
  • What is a unique phone? We define a unique telphone as a phone number and associated handset that you use exactly once in the study. If you use the same telephone twice, it is not unique. MIXER uses caller id to check the telephone numbers of incoming calls to determine whether you have used them before. The target number of unique calls for MIXER is 5.

Some office and cellular phones report their telephone numbers incorrectly so that they appear to have been used before. Also, if your phone has Caller ID blocked, the platform will not be able to tell that the number is unique and will not count that call as such. Use pay phones or borrow your friend's phone. Then be sure not to use these phones again in the study. If you complete five unique calls you will receive a one-time $50.00 bonus.

We prefer all other calls to be made from a single line on the same handset.

  • FOREIGN LANGUAGE CALLS
  • A foreign language call is one that is conducted in fluent speech in one of the target languages. Please complete some calls in one of those languages and some in English. The MIXER robot operator will try to match you with someone who speaks the same languages as you. At the beginning of each call, ask your partner which languages he or she speaks. If you both speak the same language, please have the conversation in that language. Otherwise please just have the conversation in English. If you complete 5 calls in one of the target languages, you will receive a one-time bonus of $50.00.
